Academic reinstatement process
The reinstatement process is designed to help you reflect on your academic experience, identify strategies for improvement and connect with resources that support your continued success.
While your specific requirements depend on your academic standing, the process requires you to:
Complete the Reinstatement Support Agreement
The Reinstatement Support Agreement confirms your intent to continue your studies and begins the reinstatement process.
Meet with your academic advisor
Your advisor will help you review your academic progress, discuss your goals, and identify strategies and resources to support your success.
Complete a personal statement
Your personal statement provides an opportunity to reflect on your academic experience, challenges you encountered and the steps you plan to take moving forward.
Develop a Student Success Plan
You will work with your advisor to identify resources, strategies and action items to support your academic progress.
Reinstatement based on your academic standing
The steps you need to complete depend on your academic situation. Review your academic deficiency notice and follow the instructions provided for your specific situation.

Additional reinstatement situations
If you have been away from WSU Vancouver for more than one fall or spring semester as a degree-seeking student, you may need to complete the Former Student Returning process in addition to any required reinstatement steps.

If you were academically deficient at another WSU campus and would like to continue your studies at WSU Vancouver, you will need to complete the Change of Campus process and follow WSU Vancouver’s reinstatement requirements.

Academic reinstatement deadlines
Complete your reinstatement requirements as early as possible to allow time for advising, course planning and financial aid processing.
Deadlines vary depending on your academic situation. Your academic deficiency notice and message from Vancouver Reinstatement will identify the deadline that applies to you.

Academic regulations
Academic reinstatement follows WSU Academic Regulations. For complete policy language, review the official WSU Academic Regulations.
Academic Regulation 38a
Undergraduate students whose semester (excluding summer session) or cumulative grade point average drops below a 2.0 for the first time must apply for Reinstatement to continue their enrollment at Washington State University.
Academic Regulation 38b
First-time, first-year undergraduate students are recessed from the University after their first term of enrollment if their semester grade point average is below 1.0 Individuals are recessed from the university for one full semester (Fall or Spring).
Academic Regulation 39
Undergraduate students are dismissed from the University after the third semester (excluding summer session) in which the cumulative grade point average is below 2.0. Individuals who are dismissed from the University may not enroll in courses at WSU, including online and branch campus courses, for two full academic semesters.
