How to Resolve Academic Complaints at WSU Vancouver

If you have a concern regarding instruction or grading, WSU Vancouver provides a structured process to ensure your voice is heard. Following these steps helps facilitate a fair and timely resolution.

Step 1: Direct Communication with Your Instructor

The first step in any academic complaint is to attempt an informal resolution directly with your instructor.

Step 2: Formal Email Notification

If an informal discussion does not resolve the issue, you must send a formal email to the instructor’s official WSU account.

• Deadline: No later than 20 business days after the semester ends.
• Content: Briefly outline your complaint.
• Requirement: Copy the designated academic area representative on the email.

Step 3: Academic Area Review

If the issue remains unresolved 20 business days after your formal email, you should work directly with the academic area designee. A decision will typically be rendered within 20 business days.

Step 4: Final Appeal

Should you or the instructor wish to appeal the designee’s decision, you may petition the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

• Timeline: Submit your written appeal within 20 business days of the designee’s decision.
• Required Info: Describe the complaint, the impact on the individual or unit, and your sought remedy.
• Finality: The Associate Vice Chancellor’s decision is final and will be issued within 20 business days.
