First-year students—New Coug Learning Communities are designed to help you make a strong start at WSU Vancouver.
New Coug Learning Communities help you begin your first year with a built-in group of students who share similar academic interests. Instead of navigating everything on your own, you’ll have classmates, a peer leader and a Success Coach who guide you as you explore your major and get settled into college life.
What you’ll experience
- A Success Coach who helps you get oriented to campus expectations and your first-year courses
- A peer student leader who shares tips, answers questions and helps you feel at home
- A small group of students in the same major or interest area
Your community also has a social side—regular First-Year Fridays offer opportunities to relax, meet new people and have fun at events like movie nights, scavenger hunts and bingo nights.
Courses you’ll take together
You’ll take two First-Year Experience courses—UNIV 104 in the fall and UNIV 204 in the spring—taught by your Success Coach. These classes help you build academic confidence, develop career-ready skills, explore academic pathways and get connected to campus.
