Students gain the critical thinking skills necessary to pursue meaningful careers in social services, community advocacy, counseling, and criminal justice.
About the Major
The sociology major at WSU Vancouver examines how social structures, institutions, and cultural forces shape human behavior and identity. Students explore critical issues such as systemic inequality, institutional power dynamics, and social change. By training in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, majors learn to analyze complex social data and develop actionable solutions for real-world problems.
This major offers a highly adaptable framework for students passionate about community health, public policy, human services, and organizational leadership. Pairing the major with the minor in at-risk youth allows students to specialize their sociological expertise, focusing directly on the advocacy, policy, and support systems that impact vulnerable families and younger generations.
