Network ID and Security
Before registering for classes, you must create a Network ID (NID), which typically follows a firstname.lastname format. This credential serves as your primary key for the WSU portal, campus computers, and library resources.
- Activation: New students can activate their credentials via the FutureCoug website.
- Account Management: Manage or update your password at the WSU Account Management site.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): WSU uses OKTA for secure logins. You must set up MFA using an app like OKTA Verify or Google Authenticator to add a layer of protection to your account. Hardware U2F keys are available for those without a mobile device.
Official Communication and Learning Tools
Staying connected is vital for receiving academic updates and participating in coursework.
- Student Email: Access your official WSU Email using your NID. All university correspondence from professors and support offices is sent here.
- Email Safety: Protect your data by forwarding suspicious phishing attempts to abuse@wsu.edu.
- Canvas LMS: Participate in online learning and access course materials through Canvas.
- Office 365: Download Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on up to five devices via Office 365. This also includes OneDrive cloud storage for easy file collaboration.
