National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, observed each March, is a time to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities and to celebrate their achievements and contributions to communities. Established in 1987 by a presidential proclamation, this month-long observance encourages greater inclusion, understanding, and support for people with developmental disabilities. It highlights the importance of creating opportunities for them to live full, productive lives, with equal access to education, employment, and community engagement. Through advocacy, education, and outreach, National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month promotes a more inclusive society for all.
