Empowering Student Success through Early Intervention

At WSU Vancouver, student well-being and academic achievement are top priorities. When students face challenges, early intervention often serves as the most effective path toward a positive outcome. The university provides a streamlined support system designed to connect students with essential resources at the first sign of distress or academic struggle. By identifying needs early, faculty, staff and peers can ensure students receive the personalized attention required to overcome obstacles and stay on track toward graduation.

The university utilizes two distinct pathways to provide assistance. Whether a student is experiencing a personal crisis or falling behind in coursework, these dedicated referral systems provide a direct link to professional staff who can offer guidance. We encourage the campus community to take a proactive approach in sharing information, as timely support fosters a healthier, more resilient learning environment for everyone.

Student Care Network

The Student Care Network is a comprehensive online resource available to anyone on campus who has concerns about a student’s physical or mental health. This system makes it easy to bring a student’s situation to the attention of professionals who can help, particularly if a student is in severe distress or if there are concerns regarding safety.

Early Academic Referral System

The Early Academic Referral System (EARS) allows faculty and staff to connect undergraduate and pharmacy professional students with academic support resources. Early intervention is a primary driver of student retention. When a referral is made, an advisor reaches out to connect the student with tutoring, specialized advising or other support systems.

The objective is to help students re-engage with their coursework and successfully complete their current classes. Consider submitting an academic referral for:

  • Poor attendance records
  • General lack of engagement
  • Declining performance on coursework
  • Low scores on assessments
