Academic Resources for Students with Vision Impairments
Vision disabilities encompass a wide range of conditions, from legal blindness to specific visual impairments such as nystagmus, tracking difficulties, or extreme photosensitivity. At WSU Vancouver, we provide specialized support for students whose vision—even with correction—impacts their ability to access printed materials, navigate campus, or engage in digital learning. Because vision loss falls within the medical domain, we work closely with students and their eye care professionals to identify the most effective tools for academic success.
Student Accommodations and Disability Resources is committed to ensuring that visual barriers do not obstruct your educational path. Whether you require assistive technology, modified testing formats, or environmental adjustments, WSU Vancouver facilitates the transition from clinical diagnosis to practical classroom application. We aim to provide an accessible learning environment where every student can focus on their studies without unnecessary physical or digital hurdles.
Documentation Requirements
To establish eligibility for vision-related services, please have a qualified, licensed eye care professional submit the following information to Student Accommodations and Disability Resources. You may also provide your specialist with the Provider Verification Form (PDF). Documentation must reflect the current impact of the disability.
Documentation must include:
- The date of the most recent evaluation and the specific pathology of the eye disorder.
- A brief description of the severity of the vision loss and its current impact or limitations on learning.
- Any medically relevant testing results, such as visual acuity or peripheral field measurements.
