Minor in Art

Expand Your Creative Horizons

The art program at WSU Vancouver allows students to explore creative expression while developing essential visual literacy and historical grounding. Through small studio courses, students focus on contemporary issues and practices while sharpening their personal aesthetic across diverse arts and global cultures. The program encourages students to take risks and embrace open-ended inquiry to build a deeper understanding of the world.

Coursework provides comprehensive practice in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Students can choose to pursue a structured minor or use art as a formal concentration within a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities degree. These studio courses complement any major field of study, offering a rich undergraduate experience that transforms ideas into tangible form.

About the Major

The art program offers flexible pathways for undergraduate students looking to integrate creative practice into their degree. Students from any academic background can enroll in art courses as electives to enhance their visual skills. For a structured credential, the minor in art requires 18 total credits. This includes foundational coursework: either ART 102 or ART 103, along with ART 110, and one selection from ART 201 or ART 202. The remaining 9 credits must consist of upper-division electives at the 300-400 level, completed through WSU courses or approved education abroad and educational exchange opportunities.
