Design and Develop Games for Change

The game studies and design certificate prepares students for conceptualizing and producing video games and gameful environments. In this certificate program at WSU Vancouver, students explore specialized gaming fields with a focus on genres such as educational, serious, and games for change.

Through focused options in either design or development, students learn to turn game concepts into interactive digital realities. Graduates build the foundational knowledge necessary to pursue creative or technical entry points into the gaming industry and related media fields.

About the Major

Completion of the certificate requires a total of 15 credits. Students complete coursework through two structural requirements:

Required Core Courses Students must take DTC 392 or 476, along with DTC 492.

Specialization Options Students select nine credits from one of two tracks:

  • Design Option: Three courses chosen from DTC 335, 336, 354, and 435
  • Development Option: Three courses chosen from DTC 338, 355, 477, and 478
