Earth and Environmental Science

Explore the Dynamics of Our Natural World

Environmental science is the study of our natural, modified and built environments, how they work and how humans interact with, depend upon and alter these systems. The environmental and ecosystem sciences program at WSU Vancouver is interdisciplinary, incorporating biological, physical and social sciences into a comprehensive curriculum.

The BS in Earth and Environmental Science at WSU Vancouver will help you understand the complexities of how Earth’s systems work and how human activity shapes them. Learn in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, pursuing a program that gives you the chance to study diverse landscapes up close and conduct field-based research as an undergraduate. You will build knowledge across the sciences while gaining hands-on experience that prepares you to take on today’s environmental challenges or continue into graduate study.

What will you do with an earth and environmental science degree?

You’ll explore how ecosystems function, how climate and environmental systems are changing, and how science can inform solutions. Coursework emphasizes scientific reasoning, ethical decision-making, and communication—so you’re prepared to address complex environmental issues in a global context.

  • Study real ecosystems up close by collecting data in the field, running experiments, and using science to understand how land, water, climate, and living systems interact.
  • Explore today’s biggest environmental challenges—such as climate change, wildfires, and water quality—by asking questions, analyzing evidence, and considering how people and nature affect each other.
  • Share what you discover by turning scientific findings into clear explanations, reports, and presentations for both scientific and community audiences.
