The School of Engineering and Computer Science at WSU Vancouver offers a minor in mechanical engineering to complement a major in a different subject. This program allows students to integrate technical engineering principles into their primary field of study. All students interested in this minor must have their course of study approved in advance by an academic coordinator to ensure proper academic planning.

At WSU Vancouver, the mechanical engineering minor requires a minimum of 16 credit hours. This curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation in core engineering concepts. Students gain exposure to fundamental principles while maintaining the flexibility to select upper-division coursework that aligns with their professional interests.

Credit Requirements

The minor consists of at least 16 semester hours. To meet residency requirements, 9 of these hours must be in upper-division coursework taken at WSU or through approved education abroad or educational exchange courses.

Required Coursework

Students must complete specific core sequences and elective credits:

  • Foundation: MECH 211 and MECH 212
  • Core Selection: One course from MECH 303, MECH 309, or MECH 348
  • Electives: Remaining credits must be selected from MECH 300-level or 400-level courses
