TRiO Student Support Services at WSU Vancouver

TRiO Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to support undergraduate students who are first-generation, under-resourced, and/or have documented disabilities. Its mission is to empower scholars to stay on track academically, access campus and community resources and successfully complete their degree.

This grant have been 100% federally funded by the United States Department of Education: SSS supports 164 students for a total of $272,364.

Although each TRiO Student Support Services site is unique, across WSU we share a unified purpose: to retain, support and graduate the scholars we serve.

Summer Bridge Program

The TRiO Student Support Services Summer Bridge Program at Washington State University Vancouver is here to help you succeed. Designed specifically for first-gen students, this summer experience will give you the tools and connections you need to thrive. Meet fellow first-gen students, get insider tips on navigating campus life, and discover the resources available to support you every step of the way.

TRIO Student Support Services – Student Application

  • Complete the online TRiO SSS interest application
  • If eligible, you’ll be invited to an interview or intake meeting
  • Complete any assessments (e.g. learning strategies inventory)
  • Once selected, you will begin working with staff to develop your academic plan and access services

What We Offer

As a TRiO Student Support Services scholar, you are eligible for a range of services at no cost. Sample support includes:

Academic Support

  • One-on-one academic advising and planning
  • Individual or group tutoring
  • Priority registration
  • Graduate school/career preparation
  • Help with navigating course requirements

Enrichment and Personal Development

  • Workshops on study skills, time management, wellness
  • Leadership and cultural enrichment activities
  • Study abroad or experiential learning opportunities
  • Peer mentoring and support communities

Educational and Personal Resources

  • Help completing financial aid and scholarship applications
  • Referrals to on- and off-campus support (e.g. food pantry, counseling, basic needs)
  • Guidance on financial literacy and budgeting

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify, you must meet the following baseline criteria:

Baseline Criteria

  1. Enrolled as an undergraduate student at WSU Vancouver
  2. U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  3. Demonstrate academic need (per federal TRIO guidelines)
  4. Meet at least one of the following:
    • First-generation (neither parent/guardian earned a bachelor’s degree)
    • Low-income (according to federal guidelines)
    • Documented disability

Scholar Expectations

Once accepted, scholars are expected to:

  • Meet regularly with an assigned academic coordinator
  • Keep an individualized academic plan (e.g. “My Advancement Plan”)
  • Participate in workshops, events or required program components
  • Complete periodic forms, evaluations or check-ins

No. All TRiO SSS services are provided free of charge to scholars.

Our staff will work with you to get back on track. Continued participation is tied to meeting certain program expectations.

We’ll assist you directly or refer you to Student Financial Services on campus.
