Concerned about someone?
You don’t need to have all the answers to help a student who may be struggling. Early intervention can help connect students with the right resources.
If a student poses an immediate threat to themselves or others, call 911. Otherwise, there are ways to reach out for guidance and support.
Faculty and staff
If you’re concerned about a student, you can connect them with campus resources:
Counseling Services
Confidential mental health counseling for currently enrolled students, including same-day urgent appointments.
Student Care Network
The Student Care Network offers non-clinical case management for students who are struggling academically, socially or emotionally. Faculty and staff can submit a referral, and students can refer themselves.
The Student Care Network connects students with resources, guidance and follow-up support across campus.
Students supporting classmates
You can help a friend or classmate who seems stressed or withdrawn by:
- Checking in and asking how they’re doing.
- Listening without judgment.
- Encouraging them to contact Counseling Services or the Student Care Network.
- Offering to help find resources or accompany them to an appointment, if they want.
Being a supportive friend is an important role, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of your own mental health. Know your own limits and seek help for yourself when needed.
