Guidelines for Placing Materials on Reserve
To submit a reserves request, please complete and submit a Reserves Request Form.
Please keep the following policies in mind when submitting a request for course reserves:
- Each item must be accompanied by an electronic reserve form before it can be processed.
- Items that may be put on reserves include copies of library or instructor owned books, pamphlets, photocopied articles, DVDs, and CDs. Acceptable items for electronic reserves include e-books, scanned book chapters, journal articles, websites, and streaming media.
- “Consumable” materials such as workbooks, worksheets, etc. cannot be used for reserves.
- WSU Libraries must own a copy of any material requested for use as electronic reserves. If WSU does not own the item, you can recommend we purchase a copy with the Purchase Recommendation Form. A library faculty member will consider your request and get back to you quickly.
- Interlibrary loan and Summit are not to be used to obtain items for physical or electronic reserves. Exceptions can be made for first time use cases.
- Instructors may provide a personal copy of a textbook for reserve (this includes textbooks that students are required to purchase for the duration of the course). However, textbooks cannot be accepted, by law, if they have labels such as “Instructor copy,” “Publisher’s review copy,” or “Desk copy.
- Please be conscious of copyright – we cannot post electronic reserves that exceed approximately two chapters of any print book, or more than two articles from a single printed issue of a journal.
- Library reserves staff evaluate all requests to ensure that they meet U.S. fair use guidelines.
- At the end of each semester following finals:
- Electronic files will be removed and deleted
- Items owned by the professor will be returned to the professor
- Library-owned items will be returned to the collection.
