Crimson First-Year Award

The Crimson First-Year Award recognizes eligible Washington residents entering WSU directly from high school. Your award amount is based on your unweighted, cumulative high school GPA.

Award information

The Crimson First-Year Award has four award levels based on your high school GPA:

The award is renewable for up to three additional years if you continue to meet the renewal requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

You may be considered for the Crimson First-Year Award if you:

  • Are a Washington resident for tuition-paying purposes
  • Are an incoming first-year student entering WSU directly from high school
  • Enroll full time at WSU, with at least 12 credits per term

A limited number of awards are available. The Crimson First-Year Award not valid at WSU Global and WSU Spokane campus.

How to receive the award

No separate application is required. To be considered for the award:

  • Apply for admission to WSU and submit all required admission materials.
  • Confirm your admission by the applicable deadline
  • Enroll full time at WSU, with at least 12 credits per term

Fall-start students: Confirm your admission by May 1.

Spring-start students: Confirm your admission and enroll before the start of the spring term.

Eligible students will be notified when they are admitted to WSU Vancouver.

Renewing your award

The award is renewable for up to three additional years if you:

  • Remain enrolled full time at WSU in your first undergraduate degree program
  • Maintain continuous enrollment, excluding summer term
  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Enroll in the spring semester if you started in the fall

The award ends when you receive your first bachelor’s degree, discontinue enrollment or no longer meet the renewal requirements.
